Job Description

Position salary range:  $80,000-$90,000

Position reports to:  Jenny Slattery, Director of Development

The Individual Giving Manager is a newly created position designed to oversee SPUR’s individual membership program and grow the mid-level donor base. The manager will implement annual appeals, identify and cultivate new donors, meaningfully steward existing donors, and utilize data to inform strategic decision-making. This dynamic role requires the ability to focus on day-to-day tasks while collaborating across the organization to achieve SPUR’s goals.

Membership Management

Responsible for raising approximately $800,000 in support of SPUR’s $6.7M annual budget
Develop and implement renewal, recapture, and acquisition strategies for the entire individual membership portfolio, with a direct focus on growing the mid-level membership base, including SPUR’s Urban Leaders
Draft and edit individual membership appeals and appropriately timed donor touch points
Plan and oversee the implementation of the membership renewal, recapture, and acquisition processes for all individual membership levels
Manage a portfolio of 75-100 mid-level donors ($1,000-$10,000), communicating effectively with donors through face-to-face and electronic cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship efforts
Support Silver SPUR Awards fundraising efforts within the individual giving portfolio
Develop, track, analyze, and evaluate metrics for individual membership campaigns in collaboration with the Development Operations Manager
Develop internal fundraising systems aimed at identifying and qualifying prospects
Develop and implement a high-performing moves management process within SPUR’s CRM database (Salesforce NPSP) in collaboration with the Development Manager
Assist in developing donor reports that will assist in all aspects of individual membership fundraising
Strong command of the individual membership budget, including expenses related to operating the individual membership program
Maintain visibility and availability in the community and frequently attend community events
Work closely with SPUR’s Engagement team to ensure memorable individual member experiences, with a focus on curated unique engagement opportunities for the Urban Leaders Council
Collaborate with the Director of Development to enhance individual donor fundraising at marquee SPUR events, such as the Silver SPUR Awards
Other responsibilities as required or assigned

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in membership operations
Strong track record of relationship-based business development, fundraising or marketing
Ability to work in Oakland, San Jose and San Francisco

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

3-4 years of experience in cultivating and soliciting individual gifts
3-4 years of experience in managing memberships
Interest in urban and public/civic affairs
Comfort and willingness to ask for money
Self-directing initiative
Keen sense of judgment to handle complex donor relationships
Proven effective communication skills (written and verbal)
High attention to detail
Ability to adapt to existing systems and improve upon them
Proficient use of Salesforce, Excel, Word, PowerPoint

Compensation

The salary range for this position is $80,000-$90,000 depending on experience. This is a full-time, exempt position. SPUR offers a complete benefits package of health insurance, dental insurance, vision care, basic life insurance, pre-tax commuter benefits, employee assistance program (EAP) and retirement plan with twenty-five percent contribution matching.

Hybrid Work Environment

SPUR has a hybrid workplace model defined by a combination of remote and in-person work. We have mandatory all-staff in-person days on Monday and Wednesday, and as the job requires. Staff will be required to attend other in-person meetings, events, and programs around the Bay Area region as needed. All policies are subject to change.
