Job Description
Divisional Director of Advancement - The Salvation Army
Philadelphia, PA
The Salvation Army Pendel Division is seeking a Divisional Director of Advancement to lead its exceptional and growing philanthropy program. With more than $55 million raised this fiscal year—nearly double the revenue of five years ago, this is a pivotal opportunity to join a high-performing team that is redefining excellence in faith-based fundraising.
For over 150 years, The Salvation Army (TSA) has provided compassionate support to individuals in crisis, serving over 30 million Americans each year and operating in more than 130 countries worldwide. A faith-based, inclusive organization, TSA offers vital services such as emergency assistance, disaster relief, housing, youth programs, and addiction recovery—meeting human needs without discrimination. The Eastern Pennsylvania & Delaware (Pendel) Division is one of eleven in the Eastern Territory, delivering direct services and spiritual support through Corps Community Centers across dozens of local communities.
As a member of the Divisional Leadership Team, the DDOA will oversee the full scope of the Community Relations and Development department, including fundraising, major gifts, planned giving, digital strategies, direct marketing, corporate and foundation engagement, public relations, social media, and board development. The role will be central to advancing The Salvation Army’s mission through strategic leadership, collaborative engagement, and a deep understanding of philanthropic best practices.
The ideal candidate brings 10 or more years of successful fundraising experience across diverse disciplines, with a proven track record in leading campaigns in the $30–$50 million range or higher. At least five years of experience managing and inspiring teams is required, along with excellent communication, project management, and donor stewardship skills. A strong understanding of board engagement, data-driven decision-making, and public relations is essential. Familiarity with donor management software and digital fundraising platforms is expected. A CFRE or advanced degree is a bonus.
This position requires a professional who is passionate about mission-driven work, is comfortable working with high-level donors and community leaders, and is skilled at developing strategies that align donor interests with organizational priorities. The DDOA will also serve as the primary staff liaison to divisional and county Advisory Boards, supporting leadership in donor cultivation, event planning, and board governance.
The Salvation Army Pendel Division is proud of its inclusive and growth-oriented culture, with a commitment to excellence, innovation, and internal advancement. If you are a purpose-driven leader with a desire to make a lasting impact through your work, we encourage you to apply!
Compensation: The salary range for this role is commensurate with experience.
