A Child Advocacy Center (CAC) is a national model utilized to reduce potential trauma for children and families impacted by child abuse and to improve services through interagency collaboration. Clients come to one child-friendly, trauma-informed location where they receive services and resources in order to begin the healing process.
Job Description
Position salary range: 75,000-85,000
Position reports to: Executive Director
PURPOSE:
The Director of Development is responsible for leading efforts to raise the necessary funds to support the advancement of Canopy’s mission. The Director oversees fundraising activities with individuals, corporations, and foundations – developing strategies to both attract new donors and deepen relationships with existing donors. The Director is responsible for grant writing, grant reporting, and donor database management, including private, foundation, and government grants. This position ensures that data and information are entered promptly and accurately for donor acknowledgements and recognition efforts, as well as financial reporting. The Director works to increase awareness about Canopy, engaging in community outreach efforts as applicable.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1.Works with the Executive Director to develop fundraising goals and identify strategies to meet organizational funding objectives.
2.Works with the Executive Director to establish and update grants management and fundraising policies, systems, and procedures.
3.Develops strategies, oversees, and directs all ongoing and special Development programs for the agency – including general operating revenue and restricted programmatic fundraising.
4.Acts as an ambassador for Canopy Child Advocacy Center and represents the agency in community settings.
5.Responsible for the development and submission of grant proposals and reports to foundations, corporations, and government agencies on a timely and accurate basis.
6.Responsible for building an individual and corporate donor program and conducting solicitations.
7.Responsible for helping plan and execute special events and events-related fundraising.
8.Ensures donor services and recognition are completed, which includes data entry, maintaining records of contributors, thank you letters, donor recognition, and restricted gift reports.
9.Ensures effective use of software to ensure that the development department is efficient and effective, including donor database/CRM, and online platforms such as mass emailing services.
10.Partners with the finance department to develop fundable budget areas for donors and provide regular reporting on restricted gifts and pledges.
11.Oversees the creation of annual revenue and expense projections for fundraising revenue.
12.Seeks new opportunities for funding Canopy’s programs.
13.Contributes to managing public affairs, including building relationships with community leaders, partners, and media to advance organizational visibility and advocacy goals.
14.Other duties, as assigned by the Executive Director, and based upon agency needs.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
1.Bachelor’s Degree or Equivalent; or four to six years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Master’s Degree and/or CFRE a plus.
2.3-5 Years’ previous nonprofit development experience required.
3.Must be willing and able to travel for the organization with short notice. Must be able to exercise leadership in various internal and external relationships, including cultivation and networking.
4.Required to work beyond a normal 8-hour workday occasionally and be flexible as needed for events, nights, and weekends.
5.Above average proficiency in windows-based computer software and experience with donor database systems.
6.Strong copywriting skills for crafting compelling donor communications, campaign materials, impact stories, social media content, and communication materials.
7.Commitment to ethical fundraising practices, ensuring transparency, trust, and respect in every donor relationship.
8.Social media and website content management experience.
