Job Description
Assistant Director of Digital Philanthropy
Michigan State University Advancement
Michigan State University is seeking an Assistant Director of Digital Philanthropy to join a collaborative, mission-driven Annual Giving team. This role is ideal for a fundraising or digital communications professional who is energized by using digital tools to inspire generosity and connect people to meaningful causes.
Reporting to the Associate Director of Digital Philanthropy, the Assistant Director plays a key role in shaping and delivering MSU’s broad-based digital fundraising efforts. You will help lead signature campaigns such as Give Green Day, Giving Tuesday, college-specific initiatives, and year-end appeals through strategic use of crowdfunding, email, text messaging, and web-based platforms. This position blends creativity with data-driven decision-making. You will develop and implement multi-channel campaign strategies, create engaging digital content, and collaborate with colleagues across the university to ensure messaging and assets are aligned with Advancement goals. From building landing pages and emails to refining campaign flows and donor experiences, your work will directly impact MSU’s ability to engage donors and raise support for students, faculty, and programs.
Key responsibilities include:
• Leading digital efforts for Giving Tuesday and year-end campaigns.
• Collaborating with a university-wide committee to plan and execute Give Green Day.
• Using crowdfunding, email, and texting platforms to build and manage Annual Giving campaigns.
• Creating clear, compelling content for digital fundraising initiatives.
• Providing strong customer service to internal partners and external audiences.
• Monitoring campaign performance and conducting testing to improve results.
• Staying current on emerging digital fundraising trends and tools.
• Supporting additional projects as needed across the digital philanthropy team.
The Assistant Director works closely with colleagues in Advancement, editors, campus partners, and student employees. This role may supervise student staff and contributes to a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement.
Minimum qualifications include a bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, public relations, business, or a related field, along with one to three years of progressively responsible experience in fundraising, marketing, communications, or a related area. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
Preferred qualifications include experience with digital fundraising tools, email marketing platforms, and analytics; strong writing and communication skills; the ability to manage multiple time-sensitive projects; and comfort working both independently and as part of a team. Experience with crowdfunding, texting platforms, donor CRMs, or digital experience platforms is a plus.
