Position Details
Position: Manager of Annual Giving
Salary Range: $80,350.00 – $87,000.00
Reports To: Managing Director of Annual Giving
Work Schedule: Full-time Hybrid
Schedule: Monday–Friday with 2–3 remote days per week and some evening hours for events
Position Overview
The Manager of Annual Giving will direct and oversee all aspects of Callen-Lorde’s annual fund, including direct mail, digital giving, and peer-to-peer programs.
This role is responsible for the full donor lifecycle—including acquisition, retention, and upgrades—ensuring a robust pipeline for mid-level and major gifts.
The ideal candidate is a persuasive storyteller who can leverage data to optimize campaigns and build meaningful relationships with our diverse community of supporters.
Key Responsibilities
Annual Fund Strategy & Execution
Direct all aspects of annual giving, including direct mail, online giving, and revenue tracking
Draft compelling fundraising copy for appeals, emails, digital ads, and impact reports
In partnership with the Managing Director of Individual Giving, re-envision Giving Societies and grow the monthly giving program
Partner with Communications to ensure donor-centered storytelling aligns with institutional voice
Manage relationships with direct mail and print vendors to ensure quality and cost-effectiveness
Serve as the primary contact for general donation inquiries and initiate donor conversations regarding giving opportunities
Events-Based Annual Giving
Develop strategies to ensure repeat participation and recruitment for events
Lead and optimize peer-to-peer strategy, providing coaching to participants to maximize revenue
Collaborate with the Special Events team to ensure a positive, high-impact donor experience
Donor Acquisition, Retention & Upgrade
Execute strategies to acquire new donors and reactivate lapsed supporters (LYBUNT/SYBUNT) through personalized outreach
Conduct wealth screenings and donor analysis to identify prospects for mid-level ($5K–$10K) and major gifts ($10K+)
Create meaningful donor touchpoints throughout the year to deepen engagement
Data Analysis & Reporting
Set annual KPIs for revenue, retention, and digital performance
Leverage CRM tools to manage segmentation and donor records in coordination with the Database Specialist
Produce monthly and quarterly performance dashboards with actionable insights
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree preferred or equivalent professional experience
3–5 years of experience in annual giving, digital/direct response fundraising, or nonprofit development
Demonstrated success managing multi-channel campaigns and achieving measurable growth
Exceptional copywriting skills with the ability to tailor messaging for diverse LGBTQ+ and ally audiences
Proficiency with donor CRM systems, digital fundraising platforms, and email marketing tools (e.g., Mailchimp)
Experience using segmentation and data analysis to inform fundraising strategy
Desired Characteristics
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously with high attention to detail
Strong planning skills with a focus on meeting and exceeding revenue goals

Ability to work effectively with individuals from varied backgrounds and ensure communications are culturally appropriate
Team player who is also comfortable working independently and "managing up" when necessary
Demonstrated commitment to the mission of Callen-Lorde, with a focus on providing patient-centered care and serving diverse populations
Work Schedule
This is a hybrid full-time position.
Monday–Friday
2–3 remote days per week
Some evening hours required for events
